History Jason Coppock and Pete Marler, both
former members of Seven Records recording artists "Underbelly" go it alone and form the new band in early 1997. Jason and Pete quickly convince local musicians Moon and Rich Willoughby to join. (Rich lived two doors down from Jason when they were both teenagers) They decide upon the name suriki (sir-ee-key)named after a caribbean island that they had read about. OK ..so they closed their eyes and pointed on a map ! Suriki began giging extensively in their hometown of Oxford, England immediately creating a huge buzz around town. The band receives rave reviews from local and national music publications and begin playing small venues all over the U.K, and receive airplay in the United States. Suriki supports Marillion on their 1998 European tour and releases their first EP entitled "Dehydrated" The band are currently working on material for their next release in early 2000. |
